Today I went to Urban Outfitters and it made me feel weird and old and very nostalgic. I definitely bought pants designed for the young artsy set and I saw many velvet chokers. No
specials, no themes tonight, just a small collection of songs that
have been running around my head lately. Tune in for picks from Jets to
Brazil, Cursive, Mumrunner, Soviet Soviet and more. xo!

Bonus round this week! Sort of... I will be filling in for Mully on Late Riser's Club on Friday, 10am - Noon
Tune in for some '77 punk classics, a little mod revival and even some early Bangles. This ain't no MANIC MONDAY, friends, it's FRIDAY!#@$U!! Listen live or via the archives at http://wmbr.org
First week of the semester at MIT means that my job is crazy busy and by the weekend my brain has melted out of my ears. When, during your busiest moments, you find yourself fantasizing about "easier days" waiting on customers and slicing sandwich meats, then you know you have officially hit the wall and it's time for a break.
Yes, work has me feeling a little down this week but without it, I wouldn't get to be on the radio at WMBR. So for that, I'm eternally grateful because I love the hour I get to spend with you all every Saturday night. Enjoy tonight because it will be Monday soon enough...
I was out in Allston last night and it was absolutely bonkers. Boston's Summer is officially over. Join me tonight for a candlelight vigil in honor of the season to come. Let's welcome Autumn home to us once again. <3
Tracks from Ariel Pink, a Str8line records set including Little Nemo and Ain Soph Aur, Death in Vegas, Heathered Pearls and more. 10-11pm on 88.1FM WMBR Cambridge
Backpacks returns this week with another hour of music. It's Summer week here at WMBR and I already did my Dirty Surf Special back in June.
Anyways, I'm not even sure how to define this week's playlist. Tracks from David Bowie/NIN, Agent Side Grinder, S U R V I V E, Helium, Frank (Just Frank) and more.
Oh, and the song of the week? This absolute GEM from Thomas Dolby:

I've been hiding inside all day making this sick playlist for tonight's Backpacks & Magazines. Tune in 10-11pm. Actually, tune in way before that because the whole WMBR Saturday line up is fantastic.
This week I'll be playing tracks from HTRK, The KVB, King Krule, Static Daydream and more.
Listen live or via the archives at http://wmbr.org/
And if you're in the area, you can listen on your actual radio. Just tune it all the way left, 88.1FM Cambridge.
It's high summer so I went with a playlist that makes me feel like putting on the shortest of denim cut-offs, grabbing some friends and hanging out in the backyard. Or sitting indoors and watching 80s comedies about summer camp.
Tune in tonight 10-11pm 88.1FM in Cambridge. Listen live or via the archives at http://wmbr.org/
Like all good 80s movies, MaGoGo has trusted me with the keys to his
house so the only appropriate thing to do is have a party, right?
This Saturday I will be filling in for The Show Show and the extended playlist is dedicated to the weekend, long may it live. Tune in 8-11pm for tracks from New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Leftfield, Underworld, Anoraak, College, The Charlatans, Stereo MC's, and more. It will certainly not be boring, I just hope I can do The Show Show some justice.
Added bonus, I uncovered a long lost favorite from my high school days.
Wow... technical difficulties. I had them tonight. Between my headphones not working, my background music up waaaay too loud, dead air, and that New Order record sounding like complete garbage... ugh Anyways, apologies all around! Next week I'll bring my A game. And I better, too, since I'll be covering for the Show Show. Catch me next week 8-11pm, I promise not to broadcast such amateur radio. >.< xo
If you do have a radio walkman, I suggest taking a long stroll around the city, tonight around 10-11pm, while tuning in to Backpacks and Magazines, 88.1FM. Enjoy one of the last nights of dead quiet before people start piling in for the 4th of July fireworks and taking over all of your favorite spots. Porta-potties lining Memorial Drive... ugh.
Tune in this week for a dose of Ministry, The Foreign Resort, Mortal Boy, Lowlife and others. You won't be sorry! xo
That's right, I did an all surf punk/60s nugget special tonight. Listen via the archives at WMBR.org
Atlantic Thrills, Dry Heeves, Oscar and the Majestics, Night Beats and even a mystery caller who requested Seven & Seven Is by LOVE. What was going on in the studio tonight? Just imagine it was like this:
I'm back up to my old, sad tricks. This week's show is totally worthy of the dark corner. Listen via the archives at http://wmbr.org
Next week I'll be bringing you my Dirty Surf Special in honor of
summer time finally getting here and trying to find stylish black drapey
clothes that don't smother you in the stupid heat. Grab a babe and your
best cut offs for this one. Saturday July 18th 10-11pm on WMBR,
Cambridge 88.1FM
xo!!
Have you ever come across an old favorite and have it stick in your mind all week? This week's playlist is full of those so get ready. Some of these picks are songs that I haven't thought of since they thrilled me the first time. You can count on The Von Bondies, The Faint, Magnetic Fields, The Rapture and more. See you tonight! 10-11pm WMBR, Cambridge. xoxo
Join me tonight for my first time ever on Saturday night AND my first time engineering my own show. Don't worry, Rick will be with me for support. I got that golden hour slot after The Show Show and right before Mellow Madness. The hour when you all will be at home teasing your hair and drinking Fernet and coffee shots in preparation for Heroes, or whatever else you kids get up to these days.
Highlights include Ex Models, The Fall, Circuit 7 and an old fave from Ministry!
That's right! New season, new time. I'll be your co-pilot every Saturday night, 10-11pm, sandwiched in between The Show Show with MaGoGo and Mellow Madness, helping you get your Saturday night sorted.
88.1FM, WMBR Cambridge. Listen live or via the archives at http://wmbr.org
Mowed the lawn this weekend AND made a killer playlist for this week's show. We'll be traveling to Instanbul, France, Germany, DC, London and even Connecticut for the coldest doom and gloom you've ever heard. It's like when you wake up and your blanket shifted in the night, exposing your fragile feet to the chilly morning air. The only sweet relief is placing said icy cold toes on your warm lover. Or pet.
Monday, 5/2/16 - 7-8am
Listen live or via the archives at 88.1FM, Cambridge http://wmbr.org/
I felt particularly inspired and got the playlist done a week ahead of time. This upcoming show will somehow take you from Dead Can Dance to UNKLE all the way into some 90s post-hardcore emo. It's Marathon Monday and I'm banking on two things:
It's a holiday and you're all still in bed and asleep at 7am.
Someone will forget to turn their alarm off the night before and will wake up to the song at my half-hour mark...
This week I figured out how to play background music to cover up how nervous I am on mic. A+ Highlights from today's show include an epic intro from Conan the Destroyer, a song based on Stephen King's The Stand and a couple of Rick Picks that were quite excellent. Happy Mondays. Backpacks 4-4-16
Forecast is calling for a winter storm just as
it started to feel like spring. Boston, you are a cruel and wretched
town. Let's hold hands and stare glumly out the window together this Monday, March 21st 7am-8am.
If you missed today's show because, you know, 7am... you can listen here! The archives appear to be working once again: backpacks and magazines 3-7-16. This week went well behind the scenes as I'm starting to get comfortable with the board. I'm noticing that you need to be an 8-armed monster to manage vinyl and it doesn't sound all that great over the air. Let me know if you disagree. I think that Chameleons "Script of the Bridge" has a major Velveteen Rabbit thing going on. There was even a sticker that said "GREAT ALBUM, NEVER PURGE" on it. I couldn't agree with you more, anonymous WMBR DJ from 1983.
Anyways, see you all again in two weeks - March 21st. xo!
The next installment of Backpacks happens Monday, March 7th from 7-8am! It's going to get a little moody tomorrow, so prepare yourselves. Listen for some Tracy and the Plastics (remember that show at Spontaneous Celebrations in 00' when the floor was going to cave in?), The Sound, some Fad Gadget for Sami and a mini Dais set of current faves.
A bit of a shaky start but I think it turned out all right. Here's to learning new things and sweating the small stuff. Listen here: Backpacks 2-22-16
See you again in 2 weeks, March 7th!
First show this Monday, 2/22! Featuring a mod-revival set with Long Tall Shorty, the mumbly greatness of Mark E. Smith and The Fall, a couple of fuzzy bands that are new to me but probably not new for you and even a newish track from the Charlatans that actually sounds like an old favorite. Like I did a double-take on the release year. Really! Cross your fingers that I don't explode the studio or say any naughty words on the air. xo!
